Free online password generator — strong, secure, browser-only

About Free online password generator — strong, secure, browser-only

Password Generator creates cryptographically secure passwords and memorable passphrases directly in your browser. Every character is sourced from the Web Crypto API, entropy is calculated live, and nothing is ever sent over the network. Use it for personal passwords or to seed a team password manager.

Key Features

  • Cryptographically secure random source (Web Crypto)
  • Switch between character passwords and memorable passphrases
  • Toggle lowercase, uppercase, digits, and symbol pools
  • Live entropy score with strength grading
  • Configurable length, separator, and passphrase style
  • One-click copy and in-browser generation — no network calls

Use Cases

  • Seed new accounts with strong, unique passwords
  • Create memorable master passwords for password managers
  • Rotate service/API passwords on a schedule
  • Generate initial credentials for team members or test users
  • Produce random tokens for scripts and cron jobs

Pro Tips

  • Aim for ≥ 80 bits of entropy for most accounts; use 100+ for crypto wallets or admin roles.
  • Passphrases are easier to remember than random strings and just as strong at similar entropy.
  • Always pair strong passwords with multi-factor authentication.
  • Never reuse passwords across services; use a password manager.
  • Avoid dictionary words or common patterns for character passwords — this tool already does.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the randomness cryptographically secure?

Yes. All random bytes come from window.crypto.getRandomValues, which browsers back with a CSPRNG. There is no Math.random() fallback.

Are generated passwords sent anywhere?

No. Generation happens entirely in JavaScript in your browser. The page never makes a network request with the password.

What is “entropy” in the strength bar?

Entropy measures how many possible outputs the generator could have produced. More bits means an attacker has to try more combinations. 40 bits ~ seconds to crack, 80 bits ~ years, 100+ bits is effectively infeasible with today's hardware.

Character password or passphrase — which is better?

At the same entropy, they offer equivalent security. Character passwords are shorter; passphrases are far easier to remember and type on mobile. Pick what you will actually use consistently.
